CCTV Camera Not Working? Troubleshooting Guide for No Image, Offline Cameras and Recorder Problems

By Ultrateq Systems · Updated

Short answer

Start with power and cables: confirm the camera has power, the cable connectors are tight and the recorder or PoE switch is on. For IP cameras check the network link and IP address. If the recorder is not recording, check the hard drive. Persistent faults, burnt smells or water damage need a technician.

Common questions

Why does my CCTV stop recording?

Common reasons are a failed or full disk, power loss or recorder settings. Check the recorder status screen.

How long do CCTV hard drives last?

Surveillance drives often last several years, but running constantly wears them. Check health regularly.

Should I fix wiring myself?

Simple checks are fine. Mains wiring and outdoor cabling are best left to technicians.
